Zverev Battles Auger-Aliassime in ATP Finals Showdown

Preamble

The occupational hazards of round-robin tennis mean at this point of the ATP World Tour Finals fans frequently find themselves scratching our heads, searching around for a computing device and attempting to calculate the brain-busting potential outcomes for advancement. Yet tonight’s match between Zverev and Auger-Aliassime, mercifully, is straightforward. It's a direct elimination: the winner sets up a final four contest against Carlos Alcaraz at this championship finale; the defeated player is eliminated.

Zverev is the favourite for this: the elite athlete is the more accomplished player, has been the champion at this tournament on two prior occasions and leads their head-to-head with six victories against three defeats, winning both their previous matches on an covered hard surface.

However … this particular court on which Auger-Aliassime has claimed the majority of his titles, he is in great form after his compelling comeback against Ben Shelton on recently and he defeated the German in the US Open initial phase in August. Plus, the playing speed is higher in Turin than at Flushing Meadows, which is even more beneficial in AA’s favour.

Should Zverev be cautious, similar to his performance against the Italian, and Felix aggressively challenges the European player with his powerful serves and bold strategy, there is a strong chance the North American athlete – the one-time phenom who was earlier slated in front of Alcaraz and Sinner to succeed the tennis icons – who secures the dubious honour of facing the world No 1 the next day.

Play begins: at around 20:30 in the host city, 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time.
