The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
