The English Team to Launch Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their Euro 2028 campaign at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they attain the anticipated passage for a championship hosted across the majority of the UK and the Irish Republic.

The Etihad Stadium has not staged an England men’s game since eight years ago, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to welcome the Three Lions for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The team are planned to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean starting the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Opening and Demonstration

The event was launched at an gathering in a London landmark on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were heckled as they entered the venue by about 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be kicked out from international football because of the situation in Gaza.

Signs were held up with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Schedule

The first match of the tournament will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a match that will feature the Welsh team if they make it.

The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is hoped that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to family audiences and help reach a more diverse set of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are set to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the standard process.

Locations and Playoffs

Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight played at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a tournament for the followers and a showcase of everything we cherish about the game – its fervor and ability to foster unity.”

Over 3 million tickets, a unprecedented number for a UEFA European Championship, are expected to be made available to fans.
