Teacher Killed and Two Dozen Pupils Seized in Gunbattle at Educational Institution in Nigeria

Security breach at educational facility
Schools in northern Nigeria have become frequent targets for militant organizations

Armed assailants have killed a teacher and kidnapped no fewer than 25 pupils in an assault against a educational institution for young women in the northwestern part of Nigeria, police reports indicate.

The criminal group breached the public educational institution for female students in the Maga locality within Kebbi State at approximately 04:00 local time on the beginning of the work week, officials stated.

The attackers "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a shootout" before climbing over the boundary wall and taking the pupils captive from their living quarters, authorities disclosed.

One member of staff was fatally shot while defending the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now being treated medically.

Eyewitnesses described a considerable contingent of armed individuals, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who arrived firing sporadically to cause panic.

Area inhabitants informed journalists that the gunmen subsequently marched a contingent of young women into nearby bushland.

The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "supplementary tactical squads, in coordination with armed forces and local protection units" to the area.

A organized locating and saving mission is currently ongoing in nearby woodlands and potential getaway paths.

In the last several years, learning centers in northern Nigerian regions have become frequent targets for militant organizations, who frequently execute kidnappings to request monetary settlements or secure advantages in discussions with officials.

The assault in Kebbi State underscores the continuing safety emergency afflicting the area, leaving families in Maga in a situation of anxious fatigue as they anticipate and pray for their daughters' safe return.

Safety emergency in Nigeria's northern territories has intensified significantly in recent months, with educational institutions bearing the brunt of the conflict.
