Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side only half a year following starting insulting songs targeting their manager, Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a agreement joining the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year spell with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.
Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue the team he loves away from the drop zone.
The pair had history before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Everything appears has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to resurrect his playing days.
The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds last season however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
