The relatives of teenagers missing after a deadly fire at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an painful wait for official news and requesting clues about their loved ones publicly.
The blaze engulfed the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Confirmed images depict the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Officials have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the those who perished of the fire, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. Officials stated on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with efforts continuing to name the final individuals.
In the meantime, loved ones have been using online platforms to plead for information about their loved ones who were present at the venue that night.
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an heartfelt request from his parent.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she told the paper.
She continued that some of his peers had been found with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its citizens have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Italy but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who represented passion and authentic values."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him told me they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "I've always been struck by his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great maturity. Often ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to reports.
Her brother has posted an urgent request online, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
