The latest action-packed title that gamers explored was Far Cry 6, which starred Giancarlo Esposito as the antagonist, Antón, and was released on October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it has a reputation for celebrating action and mayhem with equal glee, all while telling captivating, politically driven narratives. Little surprise that FX's new order for a Far Cry seasonal program pulled in two producers whose creations have exemplified all of those qualities.
Inspired by Ubisoft's successful video game property, the self-contained anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The show will also parallel the video games' format by featuring a different setting and ensemble in each season.
Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as showrunners on the series under their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had outstanding relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a announcement. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is innovative, engrossing, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our associates at Ubisoft for trusting us with this beloved property.”
Mac will also appear in the show, but at the time of writing, we are unsure of what part that may be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was not long ago approved for a second instalment, with FX and Disney signing a new long-term contract with the showrunner.
“Being able to collaborate with Noah Hawley is a fantasy come true,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably supportive, trusting us with one of the most iconic video-game universes ever created. And along the way, my FX team constantly supports me with their constant belief and assistance.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an anthology-style program. Every title is a variation of a concept, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a theme,” noted Hawley. “To produce a large-scale action show that can shift from season to season, while always delving into the core of society through this complex and turbulent viewpoint, is a long-held aspiration. I’m thrilled to collaborate with Rob and introduce our common unconventional, daring style to the audience.”
A release window for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus in other regions.
