Arsenal's Manager Acknowledges Future Stay Is Tied to Winning Trophies.

As he approaches his six-year milestone as manager, Mikel Arteta has admitted that his longevity in North London is inextricably linked to winning major honors.

Reflecting on: Six Years in Charge

The former Arsenal captain assumed control on the 20th of December in 2019 and soon guided the team to an FA Cup victory a short time later. But, that initial silverware is still his lone significant piece of silverware after taking over from Unai Emery.

“I can,” the manager said in response to a query about remaining in charge after his current deal. “But it’s about today. And many things must occur in the next few months as well to deserve that opportunity.”

He will mark the landmark with a fixture against Everton, the very same club Arsenal faced the day after his appointment was announced.

The Current Landscape

With second-placed Manchester City taking on West Ham in an earlier kick-off, Arsenal risk losing top spot in the Premier League for the first time. This comes even with Arteta managing a squad that has endured in excess of one hundred injury setbacks from the beginning of last season.

Arteta is under a contract with a year and a half left on the deal he signed in 2024, yet understands fully that he must deliver sooner rather than later.

Earning the Right

The manager expanded, emphasizing the constant necessity to justify his role. “In my view a manager must deserve the right to be here tomorrow. And that is determined by how you react, how you talk here, how you enter the dressing room, the instructions you give.”

Arteta continued, praising the strong backing from the club's ownership, yet identifying the team's buy-in as the key factor. “Ultimately, the critical component are those players... For six years, I’ve seen just players with a level of attention, willingness to improve and give the maximum to the team.”

The team approaches the upcoming game dealing with yet another injury. Defender Ben White has been declared unavailable with a strain that is expected to see him miss action for the coming weeks.

A Different Club

Despite the availability issues and the high-stakes environment, Arteta feels the club's “objectives and communication” are profoundly distinct from when he initially took over.

He pointed to the record-breaking achievements as proof they are close. “You look at the performances, all the records that we... were breaking... We still haven’t managed to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the caliber we've reached.”

In closing, the manager stated, “That is a level that the Premier League has never experienced in the past. And our ambition is to achieve more lofty ambitions. And if we do that, I think we are on the right path to winning.”
