Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, Nigerian authorities stated on late Wednesday. The 36-year-old was part of a serious road collision in the Lagos area on December 29th, a tragic incident that took the lives of two of his valued colleagues.
The boxer had been receiving medical attention while healing from his light wounds, his management team had said on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on social media that Joshua was judged healthy enough to continue his recovery at home.
“Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two departed friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the commissioner stated.
The victims of the crash were identified as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a conditioning specialist. The official further stated that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and overcome with emotion over the tragic loss of his two trusted companions.”
The news of his discharge arrives after the boxing community had expressed its support for the fighter in the following the devastating accident.
