Bouldering in the Peaks

Even absolute beginners will rapidly be ascending protected Peak District outcrops on this short course. Learners will master tying in, safety techniques and a range of climbing techniques, along with rappelling. Capped at six participants to one instructor, there is significant personalized coaching and tailored objectives. The course is suitable for all individuals over the age of 13 and over, from absolute beginners to those with some indoor experience. This is a non-residential course, but there is a range of recommended, budget-friendly lodging close by, such as campsites, hostels, B&Bs and pubs with rooms. Modern Art in Spain

Moclín, a picturesque town in southern Spain, approximately 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the inspiring setting for this creative getaway. Painters of every skill level – even novices – will be taught how to plan and create abstract artworks. Some time will be spent in the open air, working on tutorials en plein air. These initial sketches and paintings will then be developed in the studio, with attendees producing multiple interpretive scenes in acrylics to be shown in the village. Participants has exclusive access of the hotel, which is built around an open courtyard and has a sun terrace with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The price encompasses five days’ painting tuition; all meals; and an trip to the nearby fortress and additional points of interest.

Plant-Based Cooking in the Algarve

This Mediterranean culinary holiday, based at a villa by the river in the inland Portuguese region, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. Attendees will master the art of selection of small dishes, attend a hands-on falafel session, refine brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses like spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. There are trips to the village market and a local vineyard to taste local vintages, along with free time for strolls by the nearby river, to unwind on the deck or swim in the pool. The villa, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, as well as glamping tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in Buckinghamshire

Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an uplifting, inclusive weekend dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a party-style group warmup, followed by several 90-minute classes covering different urban dance forms, then an hour-long freestyle session to show off new moves. Dancers are split into groups based on ability and experience, so it is perfect for those who are brand new to popping and locking, right up to advanced dancers or instructors. The camp doesn’t include accommodation but there are several places to stay nearby, and it is under an hour by rail into central London.

Maritime Singing Weekend in St Ives

This coastal town is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Guests will be taught historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at writing their own. There will be voice exercises, breathing exercises, stagecraft advice and a closing performance. The retreat is based at a rural hotel overlooking the bay. Full board are provided, including a traditional tea on arrival, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Grog, unfortunately, is not included. Writing in Crete

Writer and tutor an experienced instructor runs the daily workshops on this writing retreat. He covers topics including story structure, characters, setting and tension, to submitting work to publishers. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the beginning and end of the week. The retreat is based at a traditional complex in Vamos at the foot of the Lefka Ori – 10 private accommodations surround a garden and pool (non-writing partners are welcome to share). On the final evening, budding authors celebrate with a musical performance in the courtyard and a final meal.

Introduction to Apiculture in Wales

A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs on eco-living: from wildlife gardening to upcycling. This two-day introduction will help participants get to grips with the basics of apiary management, explore the life cycle of honeybees and discover their environmental benefits. It is aimed at produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. The weekend is also a chance to de-stress in the centre's carefully maintained forests, which are habitat for polecats, otters, dormice, bats and uncommon bird species. Bed and breakfast the night before is £80, and all meals and lodging for the weekend is £97.

Sailing for Beginners in the Blackwater Estuary

These new weekend sailing courses are spent on dinghies and Dufours on the estuary in Essex. They are aimed at novice sailors starting out or those with some knowledge who want a refresher. Sailors can hone their steering, strengthen their nautical skills and aim for the recognized levels one to three in a fun, welcoming environment. There are day-only and overnight options, staying in basic shared rooms in the waterfront sailing school. The non-residential package provides packed lunches, while the residential package covers two nights’ accommodation and full board, from hearty breakfasts to BBQ dinners.
