2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.
The president stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to address player expectations.
The news echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full message from the president's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our players.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. Following several months of talks, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all excited to keep seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.
David
The appointee currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman previously was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a early access event. Then, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary explains. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, risks, and challenges that shift every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and hope your group can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos does not have an official release date or platforms, but players can expect additional details as creation progresses.
